Well it has just been passed and put into place here in NC. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif If your vehicle is raised over 2" YOU ARE UNABLE TO PASS A NC STATE INSPECTION. I have just learned of this and figured I would pass it on. Talked to the mechanic on base and said this was due to headlights shining in the back of other vehicles. This is not only affecting us lifted guys but the lowriders as well. If they can't drive over this bump they fail as well. I don't know about you but I am pissed off. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Just put some 27" tires on it and it will pass /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif, looks like a good time to really go trail only /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif

Don't worry about it and just come home. If you've got a windshield, tag and insurance we don't care what you drive. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Seriously, it sounds like trailer sales are about to go up. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

I'm glad that I moved out of NC years ago. I just have to lower the headlights to max 60" to the centerline. Right now its 61" to the bottom. So here comes the snowplow lights mounted on the bumper in south alabama. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Haven't heard that one. Just got my truck inspected the other day. Hopefully next year my friends shop will still be open for inspections. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Well I am all ready registered in AL but being in the military I have to have a state inspection to get a pass for base. Since AL doesn't have any type of state inspection I have to get an NC state inspection. Converted to AL tags while I was in CA to weasel a way around the smog out there.

I have thought of that but it just don't look right. The snowplow lights will be a lot lower. In the near future I will be getting a new front bumper from DP 90K5 so the lights will have to be mounted on it.

I just got my inspection sticker yesterday with 38s and 6" lift. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I guess either things travel up the mountain a little slower, or the shops around here just want their $9.10. So, I guess if y'all need inspected and have big meats and a lift, come up here and gitter done. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'm a N.C. state inspecter. I have never heard of this law.
As long as the new headlight aim machines can raise high enough to reach your headlights you will pass.

I called DMV today and they are looking into the actual lift law for the state. As soon as I hear something I will post it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I tried to look it up online on the NC.gov sites and couldnt find anything.

SEMA is the specialty Equipment Manufactures Assoc. Basicly the Assoc that almost all aftermarket manufactures are with and it acts to guard their interst by watchdoging unfair laws that would hurt their business. CK5 is a member. http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?ID=/content/SEMAorg/HomePage
You also need to get on www.sfwda.org (http://www.sfwda.org) and get on their mailing lists as well as www.ufwda.org (http://www.ufwda.org) When junk laws come down that's where your going to hear about it early enough to do something about it.
Just looked on the SEMA site and they list nothing about NC at this time. The headlight BS in SC was dropped.

Sorry James looks like you've been had by the base NAZI's 2 years ago they said I could not pass because I have mud guards over my headlights now these guards do not impair the lights by no means they actual keep things off of them. But he said anything over the lights will fail you???? O yeah by the way I went out in town to the NC inspector out there and passed just fine he even looked at the headlights and said nice mud covers?? WFT!?!?!?! Our base inspectors make there own rules...

You need to call the DMV and put a complant in about them. Even though they are on Base the inspecters are still mandated by the State. Also get a copy of the state Lift laws and any other laws that might give you problems with getting an inspection.

Base inspectors reminds me of when I got a former USAF 1969 Chevy van on England AFB in 1981 from a base auction. I cleaned it up and went to get an inspection sticker and they wouldn't pass it because the winshield washer didn't work. I showed them it had never had one from the manufactor and by the way it was inspected on base for the last 11 years or so. They told me to get the washer installed. Well drove just off base and got one with narry a problem! Stupid base gas station nazis. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

I think as of June 2nd, they passed a law here in Tennessee that the bumpers cannot be over 36" to the original frame mounting. I'm checking in to this because of a warning from local police dept. I pass in the front and failed by an 1' in the rear. K5 blazer with a 6" suspension lift.

don't know how new these are but here goes anyway:
NCGS 20-63(d) provides that the registration plate be displayed on the rear of the vehicle unobstructed.

NCGS 20-129(d) provides a white light must be used to illuminate the tag and be visible for 50ft.

NCGS 20-130(b) Provides that no more than 2 auxillary lights be mounted and operating on the front of the vehicle.

NCGS 20-126(b) Provides that a mirror must be mounted on the driver's side of the vehicle. Handy for those Jeep types

NCGS 20-135.4(d) Provides that you can not raise or lower a motor vehicle more than 6 inches from the manufacturer's specifications. This includes extra tire diameter. Measurement is taken from the frame.

NCGS 20-136-32.2 Shall not place a light so as to hamper the visibility of other motorists.

NCGS 14-128 Makes it illegal to damage crops, vegitation, land, and other things growing without the consent of the owner.

NCGS 14-159.13 Makes it illegal to enter or remain on the property of another without authorization when you have been told to leave, or a notice has been posted not to enter the premises.

NCGS 14-134.2 no person shall operate a motor vehicle/ATV upon a utility easement without written permission.

GS 20-128(a) Provides that the muffler must be in good working order and does not generate excessive or unusual noise, or annoying smoke.

GS 136-26 States you can not drive into a new construction work area when said construction site was not open to traffic and was clearly marked indicating same.
Note: clearly marked is up for interpretation, could mean anything from sign, to you have to drive up on a curb to access the site. At any rate, better to stay off those nifty muddy contstruction sites.

What base are you guys at? In 10 years I've never had them inspect my vehicle in order to register it on base. However, what ever stickers it has on it must be current. When my Lousiana inspection expired while living in New England, I just scrapped the sticker off and I was waved through every time. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
Here at Charleston AFB I've had them comment about the size of my truck but never question weather I could drive it on base or not!

here at camp lejeune, you MUST have a valid state inspection sticker to obtain a DoD decal. if you come from a state that doesn't have inspections (SC for instance), you have to get a local NC inspection. d@mn i miss SC /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Delaware is the same way. You can register your vehicle on base unless it goes thru delaware emissions but the base dont care about anything but emissions. I have real dark window tint on my other vehicle door windows which is a no-no in DE but the base doesnt care

IIRC, the base is just the opposite here. they don't care about emissions, just the "safety" inspection to make sure everything works as it (supposedly) should.

Since this is new law post, figured might as well post up here, after december 31 2005, theyre will no longer be smog tests on vehicles from 95 and before, just a safety inspection and a visual(the visual is a touch & go subject). All vehicles 96 and newer will have the OBDII test and safety inspection. So if you, ahem, know anyone who does inspections, now you can fib it a bit.
