CK5 - The Full-Size GM Off Road Community

was at the junkyard and saw a 69-70 1/2 ton chevy, and the front axle was closed knuckle, with drum brakes. what the heck is that?

Should be the D44, which is what GM had on the pre 71 trucks. All were the closed knuckle and drum brakes like you saw. If you ever have a truck with this axle, convert it over to an open knuckle, disc brake front from a newer truck.

I have one on my 70 now. Dosen't stop for sh!! . I am putting on a HD D44 with disc brakes out of a 76 3/4 ton really soon. I would love to go with a D60 but those things are $$$$$$.
