I am replacing the TH350/205 IN MY 72 Jimmy with a SM465/205 out of a 1980 Chevy pickup. The rear drive of the 1980 205 is a slip yoke , and the front drive is a fixed flange. As you know, my JIMMY is a fixed yoke front and rear. I do have the 1980 drive lines and can go to the drive line shop to have them changed. OK, here's the question. Can I switch the rear output shaft/housing/bearing retainer/ etc. from my 72/205 to the 80/205?? How about the front drive? Can I switch the yoke/bearing retainer from my 72/205 to the 80/205, or can I switch the output shaft/bearing retainer and yoke??????

You can switch any of those parts without a problem. I think that you will need to change shift levers because the later shift lever has a bend in it that will cause it to interfere with the console when shifting into 2, 4, or reverse. Alternatively, you could have the shift lever bent. I broke the original shift lever on my old 465 and got a later lever (don't know what year, but I know it wasn't the correct lever for a '72 4x4) and had to have it bent.
