1. Any year 455-SD Trans Am
2. 1969 Dodge Charger R/T(enough power to smoke tires in all 4 gears - oh yeah!)
3. 1967-68 Shelby Mustang GT500

87 Buick Grand National stage II...
I'll throw in another vote for the 70 GSX 455.
Hmm I'm seeing a pattern, '65 Skylark with the 401 and the 4 speed comes to mind...OK maybe the last one won't be on anyone else's list but it is production (rare) and the 401 was a screamer...ask me how I know.
I also really like the older GTO's, and most other Poncho's.
The one car that doesn't qualify for your list would be the 68 Hurst Hemi Dart....

I think Blaze just about said it. Narrowing it down to 3 is kinda hard. I would include the 66? GTO that would runs 12's right from the showroom.

Definitely a Goat. A 66 GTO would be me #4 car. Especially an x-code with the ram-air.

I can't possible narrow it down to three. I liked the Chevelles, the Cobra is pretty bad a$$. Big block vettes are cool too...gosh, there's too many. The General Lee!!!!! I love that car!!!!!

Best of the best is probably any 427's used in COPO cars, Yenkos, Nickeys, etc. Throw in some of the Phase III 454's from Baldwin Motion. LS6... L88 vette... the older tri-power L-71 vettes... and the race version of the Z28 302's were screamers. Of course then the 427 Shelby race cobras, the old lightningbolt side-oilers and Code R's from F@#d were fast... next gotta throw in the Hemi's... especially the race versions... 440 6pak's and 340's screamed as well.... 70 GSX 455... 87 Buick GN GSX... turbo trans ams... 455SD... Macho Trans ams... the old 389 tri-powers.... any of the Bobcat cars.... *pants* http://www.coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/tongue.gif (catches his breath). Gotta like the old 69 Roadrunner and the 88-91 Mustang GT's despite the makes and any 80's trans am or firebird is cool! Personal fav's have to be a 70 GTO, 70 Trans am, 70 Z28 Camaro, and 70-72 Chevelles and 80's Trans ams and Firebirds.

1968-1/2 Firebird 400 Ram Air II. Jim Mino's is the fastest PURE stock (NHRA-certified) car in the country.

1969 Hemi Dart. 'Nuff said on that one...

1970 GTO 455-HO. Just as quick as the Ram Air IV cars right out of the dealer showroom floor but much more streetable than anything this quick that's stock. Hmmm... Thinking on it, change this to the '70 Grand Prix SJ. Same drivetrain in a more civilized platform...

My parents had the 66 GTO, I loved that car, but they sold for $750 in 1979, they are now worth about $15K in stock condition, my Dad is still kicking himself for that. I'd have to agree with the other cars on the list, but one of my favorite has alway been the 67 427 vette.

Schwinnd, my parents used to have a '64 GTO Tri-Power Convertible. Dad traded it in on another car (some POS) in '66 because it was 2 years old (and "everybody got a new car every other year" back then...). Thing's worth upwards of $30K in #2 condition now.

Those were the days! Too bad I missed'em. I thought about this all day. I can't pick a top three, as far as I think, they all ROCK! Chev, Pont., Olds, Buick, Ford, Mopar all had great cars! Back then they were all playing on the same ground.
Today, Viper, the only car I know of with a engine bigger than 400 cubes (cubes = muscle)

Well a lot of people say the whole sport ute craze is because they are larger sized vehicles w/ a V8 (most of them) and rear wheel drive. Gotta remeber there are still some trucks out there w/ bigger motors.

Wayne, you only chose three. The original post said only Regular Production Option cars. The Yenko is a Depot Option (i.e. used, aftermarket modification). Heck, if I were given a depot option as a choice, I'd vote for Herb Adams' '79 Fire-Am (Trans Am taken off the assembly line, sent to Cars & Concepts for modification, then sent to Herbs' race shop for further modificaiton and driven to the track); the one that he raced on *street tires* in the '79 24 Hours of Daytona and finished 10th overall with (against tube-frame race cars with real race tires on them). Ain't nothing badder than a street car that can compete with race versions of the most exotic stuff Porsche, Greenwood, Kremer, etc. had to offer...

Saleen? How'd that make it there? A friend of mine has a 66 Mustang with a 289 and an auto tranny. He put a Holley 4bbl on it, but the rest was stock. We raced a guy in a new Saleen and the only time he was ahead of us was when we were sitting back at the line smoking the tires.

LT6 I think is in the zr1 corvette. The LS5 in the 70 corvette was 390hp the LS6 was not avaliable in the 70 corvette. But was in the 71 vette but no other car in 71. Just fyi.

The LT6 does not exist. The LT5 was put in one year of Corvettes...1994/95 i think... (overhead cam design, not pushrods). You can still buy a replacement motor from certain Chevy dealerships that have some stock of them. The motor mounts, however, are completely different and parts are all but nonexistent.. The going rate on these puppies is somewhere in the neighborhood of $30k. Very rare. Tim Allen put one in his 1996 impala.(completely reworked everything to make it fit)

The LS6 was a 454 in the '70's models chevelle.

The new LS6 is the the ZO6 corvette. It is based on the all aluminum LS1 currently in Camaros/Firebirds and Corvettes.

I hope this clears it up some.

Considering the question, "What is the baddest muscle car of all time? ...production cars only no copo, yenko, dana etc."
And using the NMCA (National Muscle Car Assoc) definition of what a muscle car is, the answer is easy.

Number One........2001 LS1 SS Camaro.
The current SS qualifies as a muscle car and is a production vehicle. As much as I love CLASSIC muscle cars, none of them can touch the modern day SS. In terms of acceleration, handling, braking, milage, comfort, this car is tough to beat. Make it a convertible and you're on top of the world.
BTW Officially the Corvette is classified as a sports car. Also, the LT5 32valve 350 was used in the mid 90's Vette, the ZR1.
