I was wondering what years did the Camaro's have the big engines in them? And also which Caddy's have the big engines in them?

I know a lot of the old 60's and early 70's Caddys ahve big motors. I have a friend with a 500 cid Caddy motor out of an early 70's car. My dad is getting ready to get a 65 Caddy convert. that has the 429 Caddy motor in it. That thing pushes over 400 ft/lbs of torque!

Last year for the BBC in a Camaro was 1973 I believe. Caddys had the big hogs in them I think till 1976, but don't quote me on it.

I dont know about the Camaro's, but the Caddy's had 472 and 500 throughout the 70's (and possibly the 60's). I used to own a 76 Coupe De Ville with a 500. Very powerfull engine. Alot of people build up the old Caddy 500 instead of buying the "newer" 502.

Cadillac installed the 472-class engine (472, 500) from '68 through '76. '68 saw 472s exclusively, and '49s mostly saw 472s. 500s were available in '69, contrary to popular opinion but they were cammed down from the 472 and consequently down on HP - torque was tremendous. We bought our '69 Coupe de Ville in '68 (original owners) and had the option to get a 500. Dad decided he wanted the HP over the torque.

As Capt. Crunch said, the last year for the 500 was '76. 425s and smaller were the engines of the day after that. Cadillac wasn't to have a decent engine after '76 until the Northstar showed up in the middle '90s. Even though the middle '70s 500s were big, they were seriously down on power compared to the 472/500 of '69 and '70 because they had less compression, smaller cams, and more smog stuff that GM (and the rest of the auto industry, for that matter - there isn't a decent performing car of the '75-'76 model year range that was originally made for US consumption) hadn't been able to figure out.
