I'm guessing you would need to drop the tank on a K5 or burb to install those brackets? Or can you squeeze those backing plates up in there with out dropping it?

The instructions will say its best and probably easiest to drop the tank. For safety reasons as well. I think it'd be pretty tough to get them in there but one good thing is you don't need a wrench on the inside once you get all the bolts started.

Do they use the factory rivet holes then?

Yep, they sure do. No drilling necessary.

looks badass....i love the design..... but i got one question. it looks like you cant get a socket & torque wrench on the upper bolts? you just put a combo wrench on it and hope its tight enough?

Most good tool stores have open ended attachments for ratchets. They look like the open end of a combo wrench but have a hole to attach to a ratchet. They are for just such a case. Put it on the torque wrench and torque away.

I just tightened the one in the pics with a open end wrench. Its not to hard to generate 40 ft. lbs. Like sled dog said though, if you want some piece of mind the tools are available for a torque wrench to be used.

Wondering if 88-98 owners will get one of these? I am TIRED of these 5" blocks!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, when you use a crowsfoot with a torque wrench, it should be turned 90 degrees instead of straight. So when you are holding the torque wrench in front of you, the crowsfoot should be facing either right or left, not staight up or down.

cool. so, i can swap them to their opposite sides, use the 6" shackles and run 56's with a decent shackle angle?? got an estimate on how much lift that would give me? i might just order a set sometime soon.

thanks

Sorry, haven't really had a chance to play with different springs and shackle lengths. Been busy with the tube doors and filling orders. Kind of a try it and see sort of deal on this one. Sounds like your heading in the right direction though.

I'd love to design a set for the newer rigs. Need to find a newer rig to set one up and get it done. Hopefully sometime in the future.

that's a definite. Let me get something figured up for pricing. Hadn't really thought anybody would be after just the backers so haven't priced them out yet. I have had a couple requests for them though.

they are called crows feet and to get an accurate torque you will need to make sure the crows foot is 90 degrees from the TQ wrench.

If i would use the 4 inch shackle flip on a 8 inch lift.. how would i go about lifting the front another 4 inches??? Thanks.. 52 inch springs up front..

cybrfire
08-09-2005, 10:25 PM
lifted 52's could get you there. It's been said that the lift is more on the front than on the rear. Like for instance a 4" spring in the rear would net you more like 9-10 in the front rather than just 8". Never messed with any of the lifted 52's in the front so I can't really say from experience.

I believe MTMike started out with some lifted 52's up front and didn't like it. He may be able to offer a little more insight.

Let me give you some comparison pictures.....

This is the truck with 38" tires, 2" Lift 52" TC Springs, and 3" body lift:
http://mdhines.redlinebillings.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_P1010007%7E4.JPG

This is the same truck with stock 52" springs and the same shackles....
http://mdhines.redlinebillings.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_P1010004%7E2.JPG

There is more than a 2" difference there, and I think the difference could be in shackle angle..... the lifted springs are arched more, thus pulling the shackle in more and in turn lifting the truck more. When using 7.25" long shackles, the difference in shackle angle could mean 1 to 1.5" of lift difference.

Here's the shackle angle difference between the 2 different sets of springs...
2" lift 52's:

I see that there are 3 shackel lengths available. How much lift does each setup provide. Trying to decide on the current 56" flip setup and cv shaft or your flip and standard shaft.

cybrfire
08-19-2005, 07:10 AM
Option one, The flip itself will net you approx. 4" of lift.

Option two with 4.5" shackle, same amout of lift really but you don't have to fab your own shackles.

Option three with 6" shackle, 4" from flip plus one inch for additional shackle length.

I went with #3 (6" shackles) with 56's and I love it. The shackle length works great for a smooth ride and great flex, the angle turned out perfect IMO and the height matched my stock 52s with 7.25" shackles up front.

Got pics if you need :)

where can I read up on how much lift a certain length shackle will give you? I want to figure out shackle heights into the equation along with everything else. Could make things easier for me when I goto lift my 89 3/4 ton burb.

Stock is 4". If you add an inch longer you get half of that in lift. 2" longer and you still get half of that in lift. Break it down like this.

Shackle length - 4"(factory)= /2 = lift.

7" shackle - 4" = 3" /2 = 1.5" of lift.

Your shackle angle can effect this a little but its a good rule of thumb.

thank you very much. You will be hearing from me in a few months to when i order a shackle flip kit and maybe some shackles.

Running stock rear springs, will the flip and switch move the axle forward or back?

Neither the location of the front hanger does not change and since the length of the spring and or center pin location is not changed then the axel does not move ;)

i noticed the shackle mount is offset can the kit be swapped side to side
if so does this move the shackle back far enough to use a 56in spring in place of a 52

Depends on what size exhaust tubing we are talking about. I'd rather weld in a tube much heavier than exhaust tubing and make it permanent. Something that will add back to the structure.

I just got mine today along with shackles for front and rear and 14FF shock tabs. All I can say is these things are freakin huge!!!!!. I am not a weldor but I do work in Nuclear Power and all though the welds are not nuclear quality they are damn sexy. By far some of the best welding I have ever seen. I got them rather quickly it was about 10 days from the time I placed my order to when they were at my door and he had to make them. Customer service was an A+++ as well.

Thanks
