View Full Version : New front winch bumpers!

81jimmyslt
06-20-2005, 07:52 PM
Here is the new front winch tube bumper with recovery points, light and blinker tabs, plus a skid plate. Not shown with clevis tabs or rollerfairlead plate. These bumpers will fit 73-91' fullsize models. Completely bolt on with 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts or optional 9/16" bolts (holes need to be drilled one size bigger)

Different options can be worked out for winch, stinger hoop, light and blinker tab placement.

Thanks

08-31-2005, 04:16 PM
No not yet, but I'm building a slightly different front bumper too. I am also working on a design for a rear spare tire carrier, jerry can, hi-lift, setup. Plus new sliders with steps will be available for 73'-91' burbs and K5's.

A soon as I can get my hands on a first gen I will get something rolling.

81jimmyslt

sent you a PM

for any one that is curious our freight averages 110-230 the closer you get to the east coast the closer the freight moves to 200+

Its also easy to put multiple bumpers and sliders, etc. on one pallet for about the same price as one bumper.

Just the vendor that I have been looking for!

Can i get a quote for a front winch bumper with a fairlead and shackles (3rd pic down on the winch bumper page), a rear tube bumper with reciver hitch mount and shackles, and a set of bolt on rock sliders for a chevy k-10 shipped to 96740. Its probally going to be alot cheaper if I pick up at the terminal. The two terminals on the island are Hilo and Kawaihae. Which ever one is cheapest works for me.

Also, does the rear bumper bolt to the frame or do I have to reuse any of the stock mounting brackets? Thank you!!!!!

does the bumper come stock with that plate on the stinger?
how far does the front stinger stick out?

81jimmyslt
05-01-2007, 01:39 PM
Plate on the stinger? Cgusman put an extra plate on his stinger hoop at the top.

All of the bumpers come with the roller/fairlead plate below the stinger.

We can make the stinger however you like it, taller, shorter, etc. A majority of them are only angled out 10-15 degrees. BUt if you want more or less no problem.

Later this summer I should be ordering a bumper like the red one on Bulldogk5's truck. Do you have any pics or measurements of where it mounts to the front frame horn? I am using the Diy4x B-52 spring mounts and they only leave about 5"~6" to mount a bumper so I want to make sure I wont have any mounting issues on my non-standard set up. Also, would it be possible to mount the bumper to the inside of the frame rail instead of the outside?

udy2554
05-30-2007, 02:39 PM
I don't know if this helps, but my bumper attached in the same frame holes as the original bumper did. Everything fit perfect. I will try to post pics when my step-daughter gets home.

Jesse, any thoughts on mounting it on the inboard side of the frame rails?

BulldogK5
05-31-2007, 10:11 PM
John, I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but the sides where the skid plate attaches are the mounting surfaces to the frame. This is what gives the strength to the winch plate area I think. Doesn't mean he can't do it but i think it would be a big redesign to have the rigidity needed. That is my daughter getting ready to show me the finer points on where and how to attach a winch cable or strap.:haha:

I know the light placements are a little odd, but I needed to open up my line of sight by lowering the upper Dayliters, and I still need to do something about about the lower Hilites acting as my deer stoppers, but I love the bumper! THanks. The yellow one is all 1 ton. 454,465,205 60,14ff. Locked at both ends with 560+ hp. Way too much fun but drove it like an idiot on the road so It is being dismantled to increase my chances of survival. The blue and black is a DD and for mild trails. Would like to maybe go with a 14sf 6-lug for the rear. The black one is parts truck from my brother UDY. It looks to me like you have a pretty nice collection yourself

I'm still trying to grow bigger testiclees to explain to my wife why I need a matching rear bumper for my blazer. She just doesn't understand why it's not right that the chrome rear bumper contrasts with the the front Blazen tube bumper in powder coat black.Mine just shook her head and laughed at me when I said I needed a matching bumper, until I explained how flimsy the stock one is.

Tire carriers have been a popular combo for these Rear bumpers!

Jesse Kruger

Ok Jesse so I posted a message in "the garage" and got some response about the Gen I bumper.

I also have a thread in the "trials" section regarding a trip to the Rubicon in August and your thinking you'll go.

I'm willing to provide the Gen I K5. And some help creating the bumper when ever you are. I have the winch currently mounted to a winch plate and some 2" tubing to be used in my hitch receiver but would really like to get that thing mounted to the front where it's supposed to be.

thanks...haven't quite decided yet...black, brown(to match interior) of whatever color i decide to paint the truck...i bought a gallon of dark gray tractor paint to paint the "new" fenders I'm putting on, but don't think they'll go well with the tan/brown interior too well...i am leaning towards dark green tho...or maybe olive drab...who knows...going back to work outside of Houston next week so who knows when i'll get back hm to work on it...I'm fixing to start my busy season and don't usually have time off til Thanksgiving then again @ Christmas...

also if the burban I buy had the tailgate rear instead of barn doors and I need to go pick up long material or something and had to drive w/ the tailgate down....I would be able to disengage the rear tire carrier and remove for situations like that?

Do you have any plans to offer tire carriers (like tire gate) for the older Chevy trucks? I need a place to secure my spare so that when I'm wheeling it won't have a chance to come out of the back of the truck. I contacted tire gate but they cater to the newer truck crowd. I'm looking for something like this http://www.tiregate.com/prerunner_0.shtml if possible. Thanks

81jimmyslt
03-15-2009, 08:52 PM
We have done a few carriers similar to the gates but they were mounted into the exo cages on toyotas. It is doable but having a tailgate is also nice.

The HD fornt bumpers are $750 plus $134 to TX minus discount 10% $75

andyblack
04-13-2009, 06:06 AM
I have his front tube bumper. It seems like it weighs about 125 lbs. or so. You'll need a buddy to help you put it on. Also a come along will help to pull the frame together so it will go on a lot easier. I had to use a sledge hammer to smack the ends of the frame into submission. Only later did I come up with the come along idea.
