Yep, all depends on what part of California you're talking about. Here in the San Francisco bay area it is anywhere from 50-85 degrees on average between the seasons with occasional 100 degree days in summer and occasional 30 degree nights in winter. Like said, if you plan on moving here you better have LOTS of money because EVERYTHING is over priced in this state.

South Lake Tahoe vs. Plam Springs, Kalifornia is a large and varied state.

I Love So.Cal.!!!
Long Beach
Summer 70-100 with avg of 85
Winter 55-70 with avg of 65
Almost blue skies every day of year, except for the one month or so of straight rain lately.
Oh also here in long beach we have to deal with the damn "Marine layer and coastal eddies"...Wich i hate both
But other than that i love LA
Deserts to the east
Mountains to the N.E
Ocean to the W
Mexico to the S
Vegas within 3-4 hours :D

Yeah I should of been more specific. Probably more north and more east. But still close enough to the ocean... I don't know
Thought of eventually moving somewhere...California in on the lower of the list because of how huge population wise it is, and because its so expensive...

Thanks

Property tax, Income tax, Sales tax (8.25 % in LA CO.), Gas ~$3 gal. Ask "Chevyin" in the Pacific Region Forum; they just came from FLA. to Pismo area. Pretty painful, but they like it here. I'm just lucky to have been brought here in '63. And when I retire, I'll probably move to someplace that gets muddy, but I will NEVER sell my property, I'll rent it. But that's what CA is about, if you can get that big nut, it's downhill from here. :wink1:

Don't believe everything You hear Steve. The whole state is not over populated. In fact the north east has very few people and the land is not that high especially in Modoc county. Most of that area is made up of the Sierras and high desert. Temps there are pretty damn cold in the winter with lots of snow and mild in the summer. Now over on My side in the north west part we have plenty of rain in the winter with temps dipping down to the 30's but for the most part we hover in the 50's. Summers are mild with an average of about 85. Again We have a small population up here with lost of land with mostly timber and rivers. I'm only a 30 minute drive from the ocean.

Coreys' right, N. CA is beautiful, it all depends on what you are used to. I came from Phoenix to the beach, took five years for my joints to stop the pain.

The rubicon is close to placerville, but closer to south lake tahoe. I live in minden nevada, and i'm not to far at all from the rubicon. I maybe closer then from placerville.

Yeah I saw some pictures on pirate last year with HUGE amounts of snow on the Rubicon-never knew they got that much snow down south.

I know everywhere wont be overpopulated. But California alone has as much, or more people than all of Canada. Cali is 155,959 sq mi. (403,934 sq km) and I Canada is 3,851,787 sq mi (9,976,128 sq km). Cali has approx. 35,893,799 people in 2004 and Canada only has approx. 32,805,041 people in July of this year. So with that little of land, and that many of people, I think it will be way different for me either way.
I don't know yet. Does anyone have a link to a reality site in California that I can see some examples of different cities prices of certain houses? I can't relate to how expenisve it is yet.
I will take your guys word that it is waaay expensive-will it ever go down though? The wheeling there looks great, ocean near by, lots of wommen, mountains, lakes, big cities, etc.

Still have time to decide. Thaks for the help.

Look at it this way Steve. Most of the population is in the Bay Area. LA, San Diego and Sacramento.
What I suggest You do is to just look up a town and most of the time you will get a link to realtors in that area. I know of areas in the northern part of the state where land and homes are cheap with low poulations. Im thinking of looking at some land around Alturas lot of ranch land over there and old homes that would make great fixer uppers.

So not everywhere in California is going to be as expensive compared to the Bay area? More inland would be less?

Thanks

First off I can not speak for Southern California cause I have never been there other than driving though. What I do know is the cheaper places in the northern part of the state are in the far northern parts. We have people move up here all the time and buy a house with 10-20 acres after selling their house in the Bay Area.

84gmcjimmy
10-19-2005, 01:15 AM
okay I get it.
Cali is tempting though-Rubicon, Fordyce, The Hammers, although I'm still young, so wheeling right now seems like the most important, excluding education.

I will do more research. I still don't know.

Thanks for the help Corey.

ummm, we have big bear area, glamis dunes, dumont dunes, death valley, stoddard wells, barstow, joshua tree, truckhaven, anza borrego, a place with a ton of mud called azusa canyon, and to the north we have gorman and the sierra nevada's and the rubicon.

chevyfumes is right, about the only places harder to get guns is maybe England & Australia. Find a copy of Shotgun News and look thru the adds for the Kool guns; "not for sale in CA". When it comes to politics, CA is very liberal; pink, limp wrist. Maybe the best thing is to live in AZ or NV and cross the border for the dirt; and in AZ & NV, you can shoot what you want (mostly). There are always pros and cons of each state.

Cali:

CON:
Tough SMOG
high population
tougher gun laws
tough vehicle laws/registration
EXPENSIVE to live in

PRO:
Lot's of wheeling, many places country "famous"
Mountains to hike/camp
lakes to fish
Ocean to fish/etc
warmer winters warmer summers compared to my area
snow in mountains if I ever want it???
beach ladies??? :eek1:

I dont know why everyone busts a nut over smog, it really isnt that bad if you keep up on your maintance. Hell I know of quite a few people with some built engines in smog equipped vehicles that pass just fine. Vehicle laws arent too bad, we have no vehicle inspections here which are is a lot better that some states, and we dont have diesel smogs either.

Population is high depending on where you live, but down in LA it sucks too many people. and I geuss you could say that cost of living is higher, but most jobs pay more so its a wash in terms of that, and hopefully in a couple years that housing market will cool down so I can buy a house when im done with college.

BadFish, where U at Dude, U should weigh-in on this 1. I went 2 Laughlin 2 weeks ago 2 start th Old Mojave Road Trail. Left Fri. 14:00, arrived at The Avi Hotel at 20:00; mapquest said 4.5 hrs. I'd never gone 2 Laughlin be4. Th tracts & Malls will B out 2 Barstow soon. Same as going 2 Mojave (city), tracts & Malls soon out 2 Palm(dale)(Lan)caster, n then from Palmcaster 2 Mojave. I've done a bunch of trips 2 Lompoc this year, thats gettin 2 b th same wa. LA 2 SD is filling up too. Once U can get East of th San Andreas Island, U pick-up speed 2 70~80. So U head-out at 09:00-11:00 or 13:00-14:00 2 get 2 th desert 4 dinner, or 22:00-03:00 if U don't want company, n nap after breakfast. U have 2 work with it. Its like U do not want 2 go 2 LAX on Wed. 11/23. Thur. 11/24 or Sun. 11/27 unless its an emergency, or someone screwed-up on reservations/last minute. Steve, U maybe headed 4 th record on th length of this thread.:D

They resent that you have; balls, a large truck (probably not shiny), and your truck doesn't fart perfume, you know how to add, subtract, divide & multiply in your head, you can break several of their fingers with a handshake, you can make Women and Machines purr; I think I'm starting another thread. I'm in the middle of socal and go to mammoth (snow--lots of snow) quite a bit. it's about 4-5 hours but not really a bad drive no real mountain driving unitl you're up there. It's awesome in the winter towns at 8000ft and the mountain goes up to a little over 11,000. you won't find much more snow thatn that.

Just when you thought you wouldn't see this thread again! :haha:

I'm narrowing it down and I think 'Cali is off the list. Although it sounds like heaven to live and wheel in (in some respects) but the $$$ is too much I'm thinking. Even with scholarships and everything my money isn't worth enough.
It's still an option though I guess. I won't really know until I move I guess.
