CK5 - The Full-Size GM Off Road Community

I currently am replacing the intake manifold gasket(s) on my 79' TA. It is actually a metal V-shaped valley. Do i need to use some kind of RTV on it?, or will it seal itself? The factory one did not use RTV. This is on a 403 Olds. Thanks

N, you don't use RTV, you use this tacky stuff. I can't recall the name of it, but it is a tacky glue-like stuff that holds the gaskets in place till you get them on. Just go to the auto parts store and ask them and tell them what I said, they'll know.

he is talking about an adhesive that holds the gasket in place till you install the intake... i cant remember the name of it right of the top of my head but i know we call it monkey snoot..... the stuff we use is a yellow color and very very stickey stuff....

Hey Blaze! How ya been? I recently walked out on my old job, thus, i am not in front of the PC as much. I still check in here once in awhile though.

The gasket i am referring to is actually a metal tray with the ports punched out of it, its all one V-shaped valley/gasket setup. The only other pieces to it are the front and rear rubber seals. I know to use RTV where the rubber meets the metal tray, but should i run a small bead around both sides of the metal around the ports? This is a new Felpro Olds 403 intake gasket/tray kit. Think of this gasket the way a head gasket is. (IMO, since the factory didnt use RTV and i am getting the intake resurfaced, i do not need it) Thanks again....

Hey lowlevell! Been doing pretty good. Still looking for that damn front bumper. Local yard has a 74 there with one, but it is really torn up. Might try to get it for a couple bucks as a temp thing, but don't know yet. I bought a 74 Formula hood off of it that's gonna look sweet!

BTW, I don't know about the tray you are talking about. I know that the gasket for the intake has this stuff. I'm about to put a 4bbl intake and carb on my 75, so I am using that tacky stuff once my friend drops it off at my house. I'll ask him when I see him, but I'm not sure if he'll know.

The metal tray you are talking about is called a "Valley Pan"

You can use "Gorrila Snot" aka 3M weatherstripping adheisive. Use just enough to hold it in place.
