Being that your links are broken, im not sure which model you are looking at. But, i have the 135 from Home Depot that i got for dirt cheap, and it works fairly well. Its not infinately adjustable voltage like the better Lincoln 135, but it does the trick. I bought mine for the same reasons, it was cheap and it will be nice later on to have a portable unit that i can use anywhere theres a 110v outlet. Im plenty happy with it.

dale.. get the 135sp.. you wont be happy with the 100hd.. it isnt strong at all,, we weld with the 135 sp all day at school and they are what ICAR now specs... for a first welder you will buy it and then like it because you can actually fab some stuff up to 3/8s if you get good... and not watch it burn up or not do what you want... youll throw away the 100 very quickly...

EBAY.. netwelder or one of those guys... not HOME DESPOT.. they are full bore retail... I get my best price of the Inet then with it march down to Airgas and they have always matched it .... usually beating it

best deal you'll find on a 220 unit is the Hobart Handler 175.. It'd be my choice...

Hobart is owned by Miller and many parts interchange with comparable Miller models. But there are differences. Miller has all metal drive mechanism, Hobart is mostly plastic, but the Miller drive will fit a Hobart, that kind of thing. But older Hobarts were totally different than Miller.

The Hobarts all come equiped for gas too.

I would say that if you have a real interest in welding, and your sure it's not just a passing "thing", then get a Hobart Handler 145 at a bare minimum, you'll be much happier spending another $100 or so to get the 175 (or whatever they call it now) with 220V. I expect that for most automotive/4x4 work you'll be much happier in the long run with the HH175...

HH175 is the small 220V suitcase welder, I have the equivalent Miller MM175. For a hoby welder, or pretty much anyone who takes care of the machine, it will be fine. Main thing is to not try to drag the machine around by the gun like some knuckle draggers I've seen in some shops. Can't quite get where you want with the gun?? Just haul up on it and drag the machine closer. Next thing you know, the break the clip to the drive mechanism and swear they didn't do anything. That's the environment the Millers were built tougher to have at least some chance (or that is the sales propiganda anyway, not a good idea to test it).

HH175? If so, yeah, shop around. I got my MM175 (on sale) for less than that if you don't count the gas bottle.

GO CHECK OUT A FEW PAWN SHOPS I GOT MY HOBART 175 FOR $300.ALL IT LACKED WAS THE HOSE FROM THE FLOW METER TO THE WELDER. AND I BET IT HAS NOT HAD 18 POUNDS OF WIRE THROUGH IT. GOOD LUCK

Bought a Lincoln 175 PRO, NIB for $500 shipped. There are some good deals out there if you look around.
