View Full Version : April 20 Meet 'n Greet in Mobile?
Col_Sanders
03-03-2008, 04:47 PM
April 19th I'm starting my road trip to Texas. I'll be in Pensacola sometime on the evening of the 19th to stop for the night. Think we are gonna go to Meguiars or Landry's for dinner.
The following morning we will start the rest of the trip. Anyone want to do a m&g in Mobile or somewhere close? I need a place to keep the dog if we go out to eat. Dont need that hairy bastard sitting in the car in the heat. bad enough I have to smell him with the A/C on. Dont need to add to the smell.
If that day doesnt work for some it looks like we will also be there on the 2nd or 3rd of May.

I'd love to meet up but the middle of the week is tough. Sorry, maybe next time.

Whoops, I meant April 19th. Thats our stop between KW and Dallas, and it will probably be later in the evening. We will also be there on May 3rd, which would probably be better to meet since its only 10 hours from Dallas to Pensacola so we wont be so damn tired..

Plans on this might change. Justin (mr. smartass) might be putting together a meet n greet a little closer to you. I'll update when we figure something out.

Yeah need to decide on a set route... maybe meet in Mobile, take 98 back to Hattiesburg then 49 to I-20...:dunno:
nvrenuf
03-18-2008, 11:36 AM
What's the whole route?
Col_Sanders
03-18-2008, 12:09 PM
Florida's Turnpike up to 10, then I believe its HWY 46 or something in LA up to I-20. I'm up for meeting in Mobile that Sunday if I can put my dog somewhere.
First post updated...

You bringing that purdy truck? :D
If I can get my privacy fence rebuilt in time you're welcome to toss your dog in my back yard. I will know by the end of the month. the only real drawback to my place is that I live deep in the west side of town so I may be kinda out of the way.
Col_Sanders
03-18-2008, 03:30 PM
You pay for the gas!
No, cant afford it. 11-13mpg vs 26-28mpg over 3k miles isnt worth it. UNLESS I can talk my dad into selling me his boat.
mr.smartass
03-18-2008, 06:43 PM
So I-10 to I-49 to I-20? Mobile sounds good to me, restaurant or whatever... Just as long as it's no where near that damned hospital... :haha:
nvrenuf
03-18-2008, 07:53 PM
There is an exit on I10 (nowhere near the ghetto hospital :D ) with a Hooters, Ruby Tuesdays or Ryans Steak House buffet thing but there's no place close for the dog. Gotta be something...

There is a Mellow Mushroom on Old Shell Road near Univ. South Alabama. They have outside tables Will let the dog sit with you at a table so long as he behaves. I have taken mine and all was fine. If I can be there, he is welcome to be in the back of my truck. I keep a lead hooked to tool box and water bowl for my dog. Then we can be anywhere. Let me know if I can help.

That sounds pretty good, watcha think Col.? Any idea as to the time of day? Long visit / short visit? There's about 5 members here in town plus a few in P'cola and close in Ms (in addition to Justin). Might be able to get a good crowd together.

Crap, I can't figure out how to make a Google map link work...
When searching for directions, use these starting / ending points -
Begin = Airport Blvd & I65 Mobile AL
End = 5660 Old Shell Road Mobile, AL
The "hunt" isn't bad for out of towners; up I-65 from I-10 about 3.5 miles and then the google map pics up from there. It's pretty easy, only 1 real turn.

Directions to MM. I-65 to Airport Blvd.
West on Airport Blvd. approx 4 milesto University Blvd.
Right on Univrtsity. To Old Shell Rd. University of S. Ala. on one corner, MMshrm on the other.

03-19-2008, 04:36 AM
Sounds good to me, he is well behaved. We take him out alot down here so he is used to it. I'll probably have a couple hours to mess around, I dont have a deadline to get to Texas, just the wife may get a little ancy. :D

He still a goofy puppy so I dont know how well that would work. :haha:

03-19-2008, 09:23 AM
When you leave Mobile, take University Blvd on to Highway 98. Take highway 98 west to I-55 (in Miss at Hattiesburg). Then I-55 north to Jackson, MS and catch I-20 west in Jackson.
Then hang a left onto I-20 and step on it all the way to Dallas. Of course, it's always good to stop in Vicksburg, MS before you cross the Mighty Mississippi to look at Civil War Battleground (and check out a couple casinos on the river)

03-19-2008, 07:39 PM
Well if you take those last directions you could stop off for a coffee break here in town. That or desert - I like ice cream.:D
mr.smartass
03-20-2008, 07:07 AM
Well if you go through Hattiesburg, might as well hit hwy 49 to I-20, I think that would be shorter then going all the way over to I-55.:dunno:
justwhatido
03-20-2008, 08:17 AM
My drivers say it's shorter, but they make better time going on to I-55 and then up. No lights and speed zones on the interstate.

www.bluetorchfab.com (http://www.bluetorchfab.com)
It's a big fab shop in Dothan that's moving to B'ham sometime real soon. They mostly do tube chassis buggies but they also sell a ton of do it yourself parts for 4 link or coil spring suspensions. Pretty neat shop. I met the owner, Dan Dubose, at Gray Rock one time and he seemed like a super nice guy.

anyway, a buddy of mine was on the way over and saw this guy stuck and mentioned it when he got here. said, "you wanna go see if he needs a hand?", I said, "well, I did just grease the front end......" so we rode on over. long story short, he wasnt moving. my truck was a little bit taller than the other trucks there, and I moved him a little bit. bout 18"-2' but couldnt get him any further cause of the ruts i was making. At one point the ole heavy chevy had the rear tires bout 2' off the ground. it was fun, got her pretty muddy, but I guess ole boy had to call him a wrecker.

I found the wires that should go to the horn tonight. It was pretty easy with my test light and shorting out the horn button. Now I just need to add a few feet of wire and get a horn.
I will probably hit up the junkyard this week and get one. How many horns are supposed to be on this truck? 1 or 2?

I just happened to notice today that Advance Auto had a rack of horns for sale, many of them for $15 bucks. May be worth your time...

I will check out the local parts stores.
After I get the york finished I will want to run a set of air horns, so whatever electric horns I get will have to be cheap.

These looked similar to the kind of cheap OEM-like stuff you find in the Help! aisle. I'd bet a few of them were replacements for OEM.
I noticed them and started thinking that if I got like 4 of them, I'd have a really loud scary horn... :haha:

Col. - I salute you. Glad you made it safe. If you feel like it, stop for a while on the way back.:wink1:
Brian - however many horns you want. I have seen one or two on the same truck with same options from the same years before. Just put one in and wait for the York.
Justin - seriously, next time just call. I will take personal time from work for at least a coffee (or brewski if after say 10 am.). :D
Jon, I need a drinkin' buddy sometimes and you need one too apparently. get the Saab running and we can make a weekend out somewhere. Get here from Atlanta, GA and I am sure the 'Yeti will be here (jackass :wink1:) and we can make a weekend of it. Got nothin' to do, nowhere to be, it's ...

Hopefully I can just get the Saab fixed and sold... Then I can head over in the K5. :D
It'd still be under a tank of gas, even in the K5. :thumb:
If I do, Justin WILL be there... :rotfl:

I know the O'Reilly's here has the cheap horns as well... as long as the thing makes a damn noise it should be fine. Hell you could probably just make the sound with your mouth and no one would notice.:haha:
Should we go ahead and make reservations at a gay bar in Jackson or what?:haha:

I'm going to be heading back through MS on the 3rd of May. I'll have to figure about what time it will be exactly, but I'm guessing around 4.

All right guys, sorry I didnt have these up sooner but after I found out how much using my cell phone as a modem costs w/o the plan I decided it wasnt the best idea to be uploading pics. I'm sitting in the hotel room in Tallahassee now so I finally have interweb again. Here are a couple pics from the meet.

So Col, what kind of trucks peak her interest?

Any time she sees any lifted old Chevy, she tells me to look at it. Also any type of hot rod. She just wont really take pictures of anything other than people. Mainly family at that. I'm the picture taker but I was a little preoccupied. :doah:
Ward, I wish you could have made it. I also wish I wasnt in such a hurry to get back home and I might have stopped on the way back through. I have to be at work in the morning though so I have been hauling ass with no stopping except fuel and one meal. I'll be leaving Tallahassee here in half hour or so. Mapquest says 10 hours to KW but we'll see.

It took me around 13 hours from Dallas to the hotel in Talahassee and then a little over 11 from Talahassee to Key West. I stopped for gas every 380 miles and stopped each leg for about 45 minutes to eat and bs. Also had a slight detour since my navigator couldnt tell me where the Turnpike began. That probably cost me an hour. At least she didnt put us in North Carolina or something while I was asleep. She is known for going a little bit off course. :haha:
