This 87 GMC Jimmy is ready for DD duty and to wheel, where ever, when ever! It's been built with the idea of function over form, and is built well. This rig was my daily driver for over three years, preferred over my 4 cylinder truck with air conditioning, stereo and 25 MPG. For those of you who know it, it has been driven to, through and home on every trip I've gone on. Whether its Devil's Playground, URE, Tellico, Cape Hatteras, Sowelltown, or the mud bogs, usually towing a pop-up camper and loaded down. It's been driven as hard as I know it is capable of, and hasn't failed on the trail once, except for getting stuck ALOT at DPG in the early days. It's not been abused though. If you don't know this truck, you know someone who does and will vouch for it. These same people may vouch for me as well, and will more than likely throw out the BS flag if there is anything I forgot to say about this K5.

The body is bruised, but not beaten, and the paint is in good condition. This Jimmy has very little rust, contained mainly to the seams along the rocker panels and under the passenger seat. I haven't found any major rust in the bed or wheel wells. The front and rear wheel fenders have been moderately trimmed and could use some cosmetic work.

The interior has been stripped down to the two front seats. It is pretty clean for where it's been, and you won't look like you've been wheeling every time you get in or out of it. The stock carpet has been replaced with marine grade carpeting, almost “custom” fitted.

I've averaged 15 MPG, and have recorded up to 18 MPG, with the SM465 and 3.73s. This setup is great for highway driving, and the truck still has enough guts and gears to get you through the places you'll take it.

The winch run off the second battery, and the battery isolator has always kept both batteries charged all of the time.

The things that you should know about it:

First gear (granny gear) pops out as soon as the clutch is let out. As
far as I am concerned, it does not affect capability of this Jimmy.

The starter solenoid is going bad. When the truck is run up to
temperature, it sticks. When cold, it starts with no problems, usually
on the first crank, always on the second.

The alternator may be going bad. I haven't had any power issues at all
and the batteries are always strong. I mention it because the stock
volt gauge reads low.

The winch does not free spool. I don't know why, and otherwise works
extremely well. It is fast enough to wind out under power that free
spooling offers no advantage to winding out.

The sheet metal under the drivers seat was cracked and repaired, the
same cracks are unrepaired under the passenger seat.

The speedometer is not even close to reading correctly and the gas
gauge is off as well.

The steering is true, but sloppy. The four wheel drive steering box
needs to be replaced, and is the only thing on this truck that leaks
(replacement is included). The tilt steering column either needs work
or needs to be replaced (replacement non-tilt column is included).
THE FRAME IS NOT CRACKED OR STRESSED AT THE STEERING BOX.

The heater fan has two settings, on and off.

Stock grill looks okay, but needs to be replaced.

$4500/OBO, AS IS, ready to wheel.

For $5200/OBO, I will include the following:
Front 28 spline Detroit EZ Locker ($289)
Flat top knuckles, milled and tapped (for crossover)($225)
Two long side, one short side spare axles ($130)
Two wheel drive steering box (for crossover) ($125)
ORD 1” body lift with bolts, lightly used ($ 90)
Body bushings, lightly used ($ 75)
Aluminum military storage case ($ 75)
ORD HD front extended spring shackles (used) ($ 50)
Spare rear drive shaft ($ 50)
Farm-All 48” jack ($ 50)
Plastic military footlocker for storage ($ 50)
Fire extinguisher ($ 45)
Fiskars Ax ($ 40)
Custom green canvas bikini tarp (snap on) ($ 40)
New drag link, both ends with center ($ 25)
14' 0/0ga cable ($ 25)
New front brake pads ($ 15)
Military e-tool shovel ($ 10)
Stock spare tire carrier/carpet cover ($ 10)

This is about $1300 worth of parts for less than half the price. At this price, you can jump in, drive off, and go wheeling the same day or go home and add the things I thought would complete this build. I am willing to adjust the price for the parts you don't want.

So finally, in case you are wondering why I am selling my rig. I have an opportunity to buy a 1987 Toyota 4Runner in immaculate condition, plus a new set of tires and lockers for it, for about my asking price. I have known the owner of this Toyota for 15 years, and the truck for the same amount of time. I'm not leaving, I'm just changing directions. This is a great deal on a great truck.

Let's make a deal. I am asking what I think it is worth, and haven't inflated any of the prices. It is located in Newport News VA, but for the serious buyer, I can deliver it within reason. I plan on going to NC/SC next week (5-8 May). Pictures are all over the place between ColoradoK5, CarolinaK5 and here. I will post some if you ask.
