I am pondering the idea of making H1 inserts made out of UHMW. These will be extremely strong, lightweight and affordable. Would anyone be interested? I can do it for any width wheel. Price would be $40 each for a stock H1 wheel, special orders would be more.

I am fairly certain they are the same, but luckily I have a set of both so I will check it out for sure! I am going to get a set made up then get pictures of a few options that I have.

It will be reasonable, I am able to have this material made for me in almost any shape that I want at a reasonable price. These things will be strong!

Working on it as we speak! Making them able to bolt together at the seam easily so they can be insterted into your tire with ease:D sound like a good option?

Worked in it hard today, I have come close to it being perfect, will get back at it Monday. I will hopefully get pictures up by then. Do you guys have any ideas to make these more user friendly/effective?

All I can add is ease of installation into the tire. Ease of access to the fasteners. My cut down mags are easy enough.

What material thickness are you working with?

Well I have been working with 5/8" material just because I like mine that I have right now. But with the new bolting set up I'm going to be trying I may go 1/2 inch.

I can also do PVC inserts that would be flexible and more cost effective with a thinner material like 1/4" or 1/8 then wrap it a few times with a bolt... I have many options and I am doing a little R&D to find the best working one.

Got the first prototype done! It's looking good and fits into my wheel nicely. It was a pain to get done having not done it before but think it turned out well!

Here are a few pictures, mind you, this is the first prototype. You are able to take out the 3 bolts shown and slide the circle inside of itself to easily put into a tire.

It is UHMW. It was flat to start with but I rolled it to the correct ID.

Looks like a working prototype. Will the UHMW hold it'sown shape after it has been formed? Or does it want to relax back flat? Is there enough material at the overlap to countersink the bolt head?

Looking good.

my first one didn't want to hold shape so this round I over rolled it and it came back to the right shape. I was thinking the same thing about a countersunk hole but there just isn't enough meat for it there. Each piece of the overlap is only a 1/4" thick.

I am thinking about trying yet another method...

Try counter sinking the holes for flat head screws. The nuts can stick out into the tires without any problems. Just add more bolts if your not comfortable with the strength of the material left. You can also make the over lap portion longer so you could put a zig zag bolt pattern into it.

If you don't know what I'm talking about I can draw it up in Autocad and email it to you.

I understand what you're saying, I will try that at my next go. I totally agree about the countersunk bolts, but regardless the nut is going to have to stick up.

I am also throwing around the idea of making this a two piece insert. My only issue with this all right now is the material is spreading apart a bit after it is rolled, so I am going to have to keep playing with that.

Sorry for lacking much progress on this. I am still working on it slowly. Just got married and all my extra energy has been going to my pregnant wife and keeping her comfortable and happy. I will get some updates soon I hope.
