When I sold the K5 I was disappointed because I thought the Sub wouldn't be able to keep up with my K5 friends on the trail. Last weekend I was impressed by it (I think a few other people were too).
Here's the link, tell me what you think:

I had a good time teasing the Jeeper out there. Told them "it was a wheelbase thing".

it is a wheelbase thing... :-)

took my kid brother, hsi fiance, and a couple of his friends out in my suburban, before I had the 4wd working in it... went out to Butcher Jones beach, a local jeeping place at like 9 PM at night... came up to this crazy looking hill, thought about it for a moment, herad the discouraged sound of my brother `it took several tries in my jeep club to make that thing....' before just slowly powering up the steep whooptie-doo infested hillside... after fixing the transfer case, I took it out on teh AZ fullsize run... technicaly, my first reall wheeling in the grey beast, and I was pleasantly surprised... I managed to go most everywhere everyone else did on the lower part of the trail... common sense told me not to try the upper half, where there were no bypasses, so I called it an early day.

I believe the suburban is capable of going anywhere that a blazer, can go, and many places jeeps can't go (although as we all know, there are a few narrow trails that will remain jeep territory... for now)

I have the swaybar disconnects, heavy duty front shackles, 6" front springs, rear 4" blocks, and 2" add a leafs in the rear. I also did the ford shock towers in the front. The tires are Goodyear, 36x12.5x16.5. Are any of you guys going to make it to Tierra Del Sol next month?

Use the sig. I was thinking about making some stickers that say the same thing. Next year I want to host a run for the MDA event a Ocotillo Wells in the name of So Cal Big Dawgs. I plan on purposly finding an obstacle that short wheel bases can't do.

its not too hard to do that... just find something thats got some relatively steep steps or whooptie doos, or a large crack to straddle. in the case of Jeeps, they also have that really narrow track going on, which makes them tipsy at times. it can also make it hard to get a lot of articulation out of thier axles at times. this is why the Armed forces retired the Jeep in favor of the Hummvee. don't get me wrong, Jeeps deffinately have thier places... its just that most of the really good ones have fullsized azles under them with GM powerplants up front, which kinda negates the whole point of buying anything more then a Jeep tub/frame in the first place.

whereabouts in Cali is Ocatillo wells at? if its in the southern half, I might have to look into coming out for that.

Ocotillo Wells is south east of the Salton Sea. The next run we are supposed to do is Tierra Del Sol March 2-3, north east of the Salton Sea. follow the link below.

also, watch the Blazin Trails board. We post all our trips. We are mostly from So Cal so most of our trips our down here.

kool, I know that area pretty well... my grandfather has a retirement house out in Boreggo springs, that we do thanksgiving weekend at every year... since most of us have grown up, the main activity has shifted from `watching his sattelite TV, and swimming' to `bringing our huge 4x4's out, and wheeling around the desert'

I'll have to see if I can't find some time to head out and do a run with you guys.

They're Goodyear Wrangler R/T II bias ply. They're the same type that used to be put on the Hummers. Here's the link:

Man...I really need to get a lift on my truck.

Nice pics. I used to go out to Ocotillo Wells about 5 or 6 years ago with my quad and sandrail; Glamis, too. Loved the Poker Runs.

What's the name of that dive bar in OW with all the dollar bills on the wall..?
