I have an 8 lug dana 44 front axle w/ the small 260-x u-joint. As I believe all front dana44s have the same spline count inner and outer, could I aquire axle shafts from a post 73 dana 44 and install them in my 1970 axle? Is the "necked down" part of the stub axle weaker or stronger than the 260-x u-joint? How about a 297-x u-joint? Any other info I may have missed? Thanks,
