View Full Version : Any one have a welded rear that that I could test drive?
I am running up against the financial wall here and if i can save $500 on a detroit, i might weld up the rear, but how does it handle? If anyone has a welded rear diff that I can pat around the block, that would be cool.
I am full insured for anyone that wants to know/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Just weld it dude...it isn't nearly as bad as you think it is. If you hate it then go with the Detroit. Welding the spiders doesn't effect your ability to drop in a Detroit later.
Rene
then just swap in new spider's later?? If it locks it w/o the detroit, how will the detroit make it "unlock"??
Sorry, doesn't take much to confuse me these days/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The detroit replaces the spiders all together. So if you weld them now and don't like them, you can decide to drop in a detroit later. When you're on the gas, the detroit locks, when you're taking a turn off the gas it unlocks. So basically welding the spiders is like having a detroit that doesn't unlock, only its about $300sumthin cheaper.

Yeah weld them up, then if you don't like the "chirp" then you can get the detriot..which is $300 plus shipping.
doesn't sound like a mod a shop would do...gonna have to learn to weld REALLLLLY fast!
actually, i need to learn how to pull the Spider gears first/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif!!

Zakk, here's a great article showing how to dis-assemble a 14 bolt and drop in a Detroit. The same procedures apply to pulling the spiders out to weld em up.

Also pm Reddog64...we just welded his spiders and he got some good shots of what they should look like. Muddin's tech article should complete your reading...between all that you should be set to go. All you need is to find someone who knows how to weld.

Yeah, they've been extremely hot since X-mas. Still need to win 5 for 5 to have a decent shot at the post season party though. I can't believe how tight the western conference is this year!
Anyways, np on the links and stuff...
