Some one said that you can get 10 times the range with a single band? What is it?

Single Side Band .. SSB
When you key up your CB on am, amplitude modulation, the standard signal, you send out a carrier signal. This carrier signal must be modulated to transfer voice. To do this a second and third signal is emited from the radio, one a little higher and the other a little lower in frequency than the carrier, these signals are transmitted whenever you talk into the mike, modulating the carrier signal. Basically you transmit 3 signals when you talk, a carrier and 2 equal but opposite voice components, or sidebands. Now if you were to suppress the carrier and drop one of the sideband signals you would be talking on SSB, single sideband. The advantage to this is that you can concentrate all your power into 1/3 of the signal. You are now transmitting a narrower more powerful signal which makes longer range communication possible. It has been an unwritten agreement since the early days of 40 channel cb that the upper channels, around 35-40 and above are ssb channels, although FCC regulations do not prohibit ssb transmissions on any of the 40 channels.

Is there a disadvantage to SSB?

It may be a little hard to use for trail use, because if 3-5 rigs are not all on the same channel(read ch35 is not
constant CH 35, ie. clarifier/fine tunning), then you might have to tune each rig in a little differntly.
But after trial and error(read unlocked clarifier) you should be able to use the advantages and the disadv...
should become minium.
