Just wanted to know what a Ham radio was, and why you have to have a license to use it?

It's like CB on steroids. You have to have a License, there are six different ones(Novice, Techincian, Tech. Plus, General, Advanced, and Amateur Extra), with each one you get to access more frequences. Ham radios are more powerful and you can talk around the world with them. You can even bounce your signal off the moon. They are actually pretty boring to talk on sometimes. But they are invaluable in a diaster situation(i.e. flood, hurricane, Glodzilla..) where there is no communication. If there is a ham there he can relay info from people on the other side of the globe. Also you can request a phone patch for emergenices, it's just like a phone.
