Did the subs. have lift blocks in the rear from the factory? Mine has what looks like a 2in. block in the rear. It sits about like the others I see around.

I don't think GM ever did. chances are someone put the block in to level out a sagging rear end, rather then replacing the springs like they should have.

Yep, GM DID use rear blocks on 4x4 Suburbans from 1955-1966! My 1960 GMC Sub 4x4 has a factory 5.5" rear block with a cast in lower shock mount. If yours is a 1978 then someone had put a block in there, not the factory.
