I just got his from the The CB SHop about Cobra and RCI radios:

"Hi Mike,
First and foremost DO NOT BUY AN RCI FOR OFF ROADING this unit is designed
for base station use they will not handle the stress of being in a vehicle.
The 2950 are iffy anything bigger NO WAY they are more trouble than they are
worth.
Now, the Cobra units are now being manufatured by Maxon and some are from
Kraco. The quality is still not what it use to be. The best on the market
is the Uniden. "

Hope this helps someone.

Damn, if the Uniden brand is better than the Cobra brand, that must be one good a$$ CB. My Cobra 18ST(?) is great. No noise at all. Incoming is clear as day and out going is just as clear.
