Let's get ready to rumble. Well the race is on between Mudzer(Neil) and myself. I have ordered my doubler and it should be here by the end of the week(I hope). We will see who has their truck on the road first. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Hey,
I think Neil has two secret weapons that you lack...
1. The best tranny jack in the world
(So cool it might as well be chromed...bling bling)
2. Me...with such superpowers as the ability to point and laugh at Neil when he drops a wrench in 5 gallons of gear oil.
What do you say about that ? eh ?

Now Neil, just remember where you got that transmission jack from.

03-06-2003, 10:50 AM
Well,

More problems. I will need to install the 2" body lift, and probably clearance the floor somewhat. I am not sure about the driveline angles, they dont seem too bad. We will see. Tonight, the body lift goes on and finally I can get the transfercases where they belong.

The Dual Case is bolted to the tranny in the truck, but sitting a little lower than I expected.

More news at 10:00. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Neil,
As moderator of the Midwest K5 Thing, can't you add to the rules that all posts must be written using punctuation ? Or maybe a community standard of writing posts that make sense to others besides the author ? I think this would benefit everyone here and help with some confusion.

Neil its time to turn up the heat. After my minor set back today, I now have the doubler kit in hand. The 203 is rebuilt and ready to go. Tomorrow I should be taking the 205 out and modifing the shift rails and start fitting the 203 to the NV4500. I got the Doubler/NP203 installed. Check it out: Doubler Project (http://coloradok5.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=9299&ppuser=278&thumb=1) /forums/images/graemlins/pimp.gif

Neil, it only took 2.5 hours to assemble the 203/Doubler and that includes taking pictures and cleaning up the shop so I could find the workbench. It did take a little longer than that to get the 205 out. I had to wait for the tires to deflate so the jack would reach. I took the 205 completely apart today after church. I have started the modification to the shift rail and will drill and tap the "plug" holes. One major set back though. I leave for Lincoln, NE tomorrow at 5:30 AM and won't be home to work on it till next weekend. You may have enough time to catch up.Good Luck /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Did some other p-diddly things like installed the tranny cooler, hooked up the ram to the steering box, measured for steel and driveshaft lengths. Should be close to mobile this week. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp.gif

I took some pics of my greasy frame but left the camera at the shop!

Driveshafts are done, I will pick them up today. Now I will get the motor fired up and drive it to the exhaust shop for the new 3" Single with DynoMax welded race muffler! Woo Hoo, she's gonna sound Baaad!

Well the 205 is now in and attached to the Doubler/203. I presently have the original crossmember in and am designing the rear crossmember. I measured the driveshafts and will drop them off next week. Looks like Neil is still in the lead. Still waiting on my triple shifter.

Pushing Further ahead. I have the motor sooo close to starting, I should probably be in the shop right now! I am hoping to fire up the K5 tomorrow morning and test the tranny and dual case setup. I do not have the front driveshaft modified - it goes to the shop Monday. I will have some misc things to work out after I do the initial fire up.

I still have to build covers for the gaping holes in the floor and have the mods to the crossmember like I talked about (phone coversation to the boys).

Looks like I am ahead of shed-ule on getting the truck finished prior to the Event!!

Sounds like you are definately making progress Layne. See you on Sunday! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Since friday I have:
Rewired and installed the starter, installed new radiator, installed Hayden tranny cooler, installed electric auxillary fan, installed dead soft aluminum header gaskets, put on new spark plug wires (universal fit, big PITA), ran tranny lines, put on tranny dipstick, installed 2WD steering box, X-Over steering arm.

**I then started the blazer for the 1st time since the fire**

Today all I have to do is install the drag link and eyeball the alignment.

I plan on a maiden voyage by 1pm today. Pictures and video to follow /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Finished body bushings except for tightning. Got the motor in, the exhaust hooked up and the axle carrier is in place. Need to get the valve covers cleaned, get the balencer on and gather parts for the long water pump conversion. (the two piece timing cover is too tall for a short) I think I can salvage parts from the FireBird to do this. then its carb, linkage, vacume lines, water lines, wireing harness and front clip.

He has a set of standard 5/16 line and they won't thread in the tranny adapters.

"behind the counter" at AZ, we have different tranny adapters...here's an idea. If you want we can just get new adapters and use the lines you already have. Or get some junk yard parts.

If you have any of the old lines cut them about 3-4 inches then use rubber fuel line. It really works and should get you buy till LMC can get you the correct part.

Might be an idea. I am planning to take off this afternoon and hit the yard for some other parts I need.

Dan, I will purchase my tranny lines at a junkyard, then have them extrude honed for better flow and more horsepower. I will make them flow 320 CFM at 28" H20./forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Well, if we are talking about "having the truck on the road", I have accomplished the goal! Backed the truck out of the garage last night for a hellish short drive. After a few adjustments; including a proper shift into the correct gear on the NP205, I had all use of my auto tranny. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I still need to work on a better crossmember setup with skid and some tranny tunnel mods, as well as Shifters for the T-cases - then Im ready for the trip! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Layne is nearly there too so it looks to be a tie.

Thanks Blake for many nights of wrenching, Layne for actually doing all of the work as I stood dumbfounded, Frisbie for many hours of consultation, Mr. Hedrick for many laughs and words of wisdom, and Steve Sharp for the Many emails and late night phone calls. I also found that my drivers rear spring pack BROKE the pin that holds the leaf together... I noticed since the axle was moved farther forwards on the drivers side vs. the passenger side. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Looks like as a result I will be getting a set of 57" Ferd springs, and the Echobit 6" shackle to get that problem fixed... really only doing that seeing as my rear springs are sagging and tired anyhow, they needed to be replaced. Well, just a quick update. I have filled all the cases and made sure all the hardware is tight. I took it for a test drive with just the front crossmember in place and everything seems to work including the speedo. I still don't have any shifters. ORD is behind on building, so I may have to build my own. I am leaving shortly to go and learn how to weld, so I can make my rear crossmember. I don't know who is ahead of who. I just found out my Range Box is shot. It has a very bad noise coming from the idler. Of course, it could be other issues but the sound seems to be coming from my range box. Possibly the bearings or shaft is bad on the idler - didn't have these out of the case.

So, I will have to find a definate ride down and back - via a Trailer. Ken said he would pull me down.

The truck works fine at crawling speeds, just makes a funny noise on deceleration.

It was too hot and dark to tell just where it is coming from but at first look the highes wet spot I see is just abouve the starter on the deck. I hope it's not comming from the head. Other than that it sounds great and pulls hard. Now to fix the listed problems and put the body together put one hub on and tighten the body bushings.
