Seriously though, if you are concerned about fuel mileage you are not only looking at the wrong vehicle, but the wrong engine to boot. To get power that thing is capable of you gotta feed it and brother BBC's just LOVE fuel. Combine that with a vehicle that has the equilivant frontal area of two doors (really! they are just a few sq inches differance between them) and you can see the problem. *I* would just put the monster in yer Blazer and feed her when she's thirsty, which will be quite often; but I'll guarentee that the grin that it puts on yer face when you stomp it will be worth it. Then go out and buy a D.D. for fuel mileage and think about yer K5 when you are driving the econobox. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I run the 502 Ramjet but not sure of the gas mpg, best I can tell 9 or 10 /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

DUUUUDE! ease up! I'm not the newbie on the block. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif I'm asking for reference for a possibilty in my 88 crewcab for my tow vehicle, and only as a possibility. I know all too well about bbc's fuel mileage. That's why I'm asking about the ram jet. Since you posted up so quick and so knowledgeable I asuume you have a ramjet 502.... so whats the mpg?????? /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

There is a guy in town that runs a 502 RamJet in a 3/4 ton 97 Burb with 35's and he has 4:11's with a 4L60E. I just gave him a ring and he gets about 8-9 MPG and that's towing. He said it doesn't get much better even when he's not towing. Damn I wish I had the money for that ONE !!

my dad has a 70 K-5 with a 502 ram jet and a NV-4500 dana-60/14ff with 4.88's and 40" groundhawgs he gets 6-10 mpg

If its for a tow vehicle, why not a diesel? Not something basic, would have to be extreme, turbo'd, etc. Tons of power and mileage /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Easy there big fella, no flame or insult to your intellegance intened. But realy, gas mileage is not gonna be very good. No, I don't have a 502, but my brother has a wicked 454 in his 77 (I think) Sub with 36s and 4:56s (again I think) and gets 6 to 8 mpg when he can go easy on the throttle which ain't very often but that thing is a blast to ride it. His favorite passtime is picking on ricers so that should tell ya how he drives it.

Sorry man, looking into all available options. And yes the cummins is my first choice but was just asking so I cover all the bases. Sorry not trying to start anything just tiered of all the know it all's and wana bee's!

whith that much power on tap i would guess the motor wont be working that hard thus should almost get millage. I would guess somewhere arounf 9-6mpg. Sounds like a wicked idea though /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If you can AFFORD a Ramjet 502, chances are you can AFFORD the gas!!!!
These are about $8500. Hey but if you have the $$$ thier is 1 on ebay Ramjet 502 All ALLUMINUM only $18,995. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I don't think a Chevy frame will take the torque of a Cummins. You can drive by a used car lot and see which early Dodges have a Cummins in them. The frame and bumper will be higher on one side.

The really early Cummins trucks used leaf springs. I can't see any issues with those. It's the coil sprung 94 and newer that I'd be worried about. Coils + heavy Cummins = IMO a bad setup.

As to the frame taking the torque, I really don't think that's an issue.
