I mean besides white knight. Issue I have with the white knight is that when he first put the s10 body on it had like the equivalent of 6" body lift or so. I want to be right down on the frame for lower CG, or as low to the frame as I can get. My biggest issue will be the massive shifter for my 465 sticking up into the s10.-

Yah, we had that 6" body lift cause it was done in a hurry fot TTC2001. We should have worked the firewall. Also steering was an issue. The newest version of the knight has no body lift. It is 1 foot 6 inches lower in total compared to the full s-10 blazer version. We went full hydraulic steering which solved one of the majot problems.

Do any of you who have done this swap, have pics of the new body mounts you built on your frame? Could you take pics for us?
Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I totally want to do this, only with a 4dr S-10 Blazer. I think the wheelbase is nearly the same as ours. With a top cut off, and a full cage I think it would look very cool!

Neil, you don't want to see pics of mine (looks kinda sloppy /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif). On the front cab mount, I used 2" box to adapt the S body mount to the fullsize frame. With the next two, I cut the frame mounts and moved them to meet the body.
My brother (who did an ext. cab like you are) made frame mounts with thin wall box (like 4"x4" or so) cut it down to look like a factory frame mount (wedge shape), drilled the hole for the rubber mount, and welded it to his frame. Turned out real nice. I might be able to get some pics for you. I will try. Nice thing with the ext. cab, you only need to make two mounts each side.

I wish I did the 4 door body. I would do it from a Sub frame for extra wheelbase and still lengthen the front clip for more room. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

is this S-10 on a full size frame or stock S-10 frame?

77 fullsize. I found the 70's frame works on the S- Blazer body better than 80's.

I have a 77 k5 that i'm setting up for pure off road use & i also have a 91 4dr s10 with a blown engine. the thought is VERY tempting to slap the s10 body on the full size frame, remove the doors, ect. & running a 400ci/sm465/205.......HMMMM ??????????? maybe it will happen

How much frame would stick out in the front of the 4-door S-10 body on a K-5 frame? I'd like to know if I could mount a winch between the frame rails or on top heep style to keep my approach angle. Also, how much wider are the axles when the truck is on stock skinny tires? Is it possible to fabricate flares big enough to cover them for inspection purposes?

I'm not sure about how much frame would stick out in the front, but from the hybrid trucks i've seen in tellico there is enough space to put a winch up front.thats were most are running them.also i don't know if the ones i've seen were k5 frames or truck frames??? as far as the width of the axels I'm not sure I really haven't reasearched any of it yet. All I know is I have the parts lying around & the desire to do it.If I do it I'll take pics as I go and post them all on the site (once i figure out how to do that)You asked about flares to pass inspection,I've seen some of the tenneessee trucks use old(rubber) bed mat material as flares it seems to work pretty good.I'm lucky I geuss because we don't have inspection here.

Do you have an e-mail address for this guy? I've got a 97S-10 4dr blazer. I have been thinking about doing a SAS swap using a ferd 60 and it looks like his setup is very similiar to what I had in mind. I'd love to ask him a couple questions about his spring mounts and his steering setup.
How does that thing perfrom? It looks well done from his pics.

He just put the 60 under the front, kept blowing the 44 up /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif and has never had 1 problem with the 9".

Whats wrong with a 9"? Since when is that a bad axle? I must be missing something if you think it is.

Nothing wrong with a 9" in a lightweight rig, just a weird thing to see a 9.75" axle up front and a 9" in the rear. Just not every day you see such a thing. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
That's a bad ass rig too. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yeah I would think a 9" hybrid axle would be more at home up front but then again thats $$.

Hey Sled Dog, can you rename this thread to something like: "Official S10 Hybrid thread" or something to that matter. I want us to keep this thread going with some more info on the other areas to consider during this swap.
One thing being - Wiring Harness.
I have a 95 S10 Extended Cab to put on a Shortbed Chevy Frame. I thought about stripping all the wiring out and using a painless 18 Circuit setup, but thats waay pricey. I need the wiring shematics for this vehicle as well as my 78 donor vehicle. We cut the wiring harness off on the S10 about 12" from the bulkhead. I had to be cut because we had a tough time pulling the cab loose from everything with wiring intact. I think I can splice into this wiring where needed. I figured the S10 wiring would have worked for my V8 application. I have Pro-Jection and it's stand alone. But, things like Alternator, Starter and Ignition will be the items in the engine bay to address. I might keep the AC intact for those hot days - just need to find a compressor that fits on the right side of the Small Block and lines to hook up to the S10 evaporator and condensor.
My Cab has an Air Bag which I plan to remove somehow. I could see myself shorting out the circuit to it and blowing the windsheild out!
Is there any source online for wiring schematics for these trucks? Wheres a good S10 source for info?
Again to reiterate my plan - I am using a SWB frame @ 118" wheelbase. I will use 6" lift 56" rear springs flipped backward to move the axle back another 4" giving me 122" wheelbase. This should be perfect. Going with 1 3/4" tubing for the internal cage and 2" for the rear roll bar.
Im getting started real soon and will take photos. Lets keep this thread alive. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Thanks for all the info guys.

Get an electrical manual off ebay. I got mine for about $10 IIRC.
Also, if you don't already know, learn to disassemble the plugs rather than splicing wires. If they are the same type plug (i.e. using the same type conductors), you can just switch the plastic head to your K harness and your good to go (as long as you plug the conductors into the right holes). If the conductors are different, I would replace the conductors by soldering them onto the end of the K harness wires and using shrink tube. At least then the joint is at the plug. You may also be able to buy new conductors, but that may be tough to find. I wonder if Waytek has them? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Personally I am going custom wiring. Completely gutting the wiring assembly from both vehicles and running simple race car style wiring.

Neil,,,
When we did mine, all I had was those "less than desirable" Haynes wiring schematics. Since I was using the Painless kit, all we had to do was hook up lights, horn, starter, gauges (stock), and stuff like that....IT WAS ALL COLOR CODED THE SAME!!!! GM was pretty good at keeping it all real close....One thing though, my K5 was a 89 with a TBI 350, and my S-15 was a 90 with a TBI 4.3, so they were kinda the same truck....
BTW---I hear ya one the A/C....I had all the stuff to hook it up, so I did!!! All summer, people would walk up and say "Your truck is leaking water" Should of seen their faces when I said "No, its the A/C!!"" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Rob
Oh yeah, I almost forgot....Since I have mooved my rear axle back, I wanted to push the body down/back about 4" so we are making new mounts with my tubing bender and 1/4" plate. Kind of a slider/step/body mount/frame connection for the exo---
Rob
Neil...the part number for that S&W roll 8 point cage is 11-1017, so I dont think it would work with yours..

Well I've started ! all the talk about a s10 blazer body on a full size k5 has got me excited. It was easy for me to make the decision since I already have a 91 s10 blazer,4dr,4wd & a donor k5.As of today I have removed the front end on the 77 k5.I plan on taking off as many body parts as I can to make the job of lifting the tub off easier.I figure when I get down to the frame then I'll start on the s10 & do it the same way. I'm looking very forward to this project (especially the completion),but I'm afraid it won't be done anytime soon, due to having a 100 other projects going on at the same time, plus work, ect.
1st QUESTION : I don't have 3/4 or 1 ton axels under the k5 they are the normal d44 & 12b???(i think there stock)Do ya'll think the weight would be reduced enough where the stock axels will be okay under the s10? I'm running 39.5x15.50's & I plan on gutting the s10 body as much as I can.I will be removing all 4 doors & any other parts not needed. Please let me know what you think.I would love 1 ton axels ,but $$$$$ stand in my way.Ofcourse I geuess I could always sell one of my other projects. Thanks, Bruce

No an s10 rebody won't lighten it up all that much. In fact I am no longer going the S10 rebody way /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, planning on a custom tube truggy now. I know I change weekly but the only other thing I can change my mind on is front suspension and as of right now $$ stands in the way.
