i don't know what the parts are called but...
very front of the trailer, the part that latches on to the towing ball, the one that slides back and forward, it has the locking thing you grab onto, lift and slide back to release, that piece is massed up big time on my trailer, can i replace that (or the entire locking mechanism) or do i have to get the entire piece that welds on to the trialer.

I assume you're referring to the coupler latch. There are repair kits available for most models out there. Your local hitch supply store should have a good assortment or you can buy them online.
