One way or another you will "need" to remove the old fuel injection harness out of the harness in the engine compartment. There is dozens of company's out there like painless that can provide you with a new ot modified harness for the 5.3. When you get one, it will be up to you how factory like you want it to be. Want the motor to run separate of everything else? Then yea, get one of the "3 wire hook up" units and go from there. To make it look/function like factory, it will take some time and research like I have done to find out what all needs done to meet your personal goal. Some folks don't care how it works and looks as long as it runs right, and some folks want it to seem like they never did the swap in the first place. So your end desires are what will tell you what direction to go especially as far as the wiring is concerned.

Heres a few not so great pics of how the computer ended up.

You can just see it peeking out down there if you look for it. Otherwise, as the driver or passenger, you dont see it.

Decided I should check my fuel pressure since my buddy wants his pressure gauge back. Guess It's a touch low but I think It's fine. It's over 55 anyway.

And here is a pic of how I mounted the aldl port.

It can't be seen by the passenger or driver from in the seat.

Hi, Had a few questions and was seeing if you knew. I am finishing up a 5.3 swap on my 87 suburban and trying to figure out a few things. Since my truck is cable speedo how do i get a signal to the VSS of the new 5.3 computer so that it see's it is moving? I have already had everything tuned out of the new computer and such.

Also, How are you guys doing your exhausts? i used F-body manifolds and cant seem to find just some flange's on the net or anywhere to take to a shop to get an exhaust made that could be unbolted factoryish.

I think i have a few more questions but am at work and cant remember.

For the VSS, The easiest way is to use the inline signal adapter form jagsthatrun.com. Then you need to have the computer set to recieve that signal as it will be different from stock. For the exhaust, i just used the stock 5.3 manifolds. If you stick with the f body manifolds, I THINK the flanges are the same from f body to trucks. You should be able to find some down pipes on ebay pretty easy. Dudes swapping to headers put them up there often.
