Corp 14 bolt wheel bearing snap ring removal question

I just pulled the hubs from my rear drums and removed everything but the larger race. It is held in by a large ring with two tabs on it. I have tried just about everythng to get it off from snap ring pliers (this isn't the usual snap ring w/ holes in it though) to a screwdriver, pliers, etc. No luck so far. The Chevy manual lists some kind of special tool to remove it. Even the local auto parts guru didn't have the right tool in stock. Any suggestion on getting this thing out? I went and got some long handled snapring pliers andit worked perfectly. I've also gotten them with a long st of needle noes piers. Sometimes they can get kinda siezed in there so you may hve to hit it loose first. Good luck

I used a pair of locking needle nose pliers and two screwdrivers. Grab the tang of the snap ring with the pliers, pull out enough to get the first screwdriver in. Start working your way around with the second, and then alternating while pulling up with the pliers. Just be carefull not to pull up too hard, or you will bend the snap ring. Mine might have been tough due to being exposed to the elements for a few yrs.

I had the same problem with mine - ended up breaking one of the snap rings. The solution for me was to use a punch to move the race slightly away from the snap ring. After that, the ring came out easily.
