Dovetail truck bed

anybody dovetail a truck bed? I was thinking about doing this on my 70 GMC and was looking for some input on the best way. Are the bedsides just bolted on with some small welds? I was thinking just unbolt and pull in to where I wanted, then reconnect and cut excess off the outside. Just throwing this around in my head so any help would be great! Thanks

No, i'm not talking bobbing the bed, narrowing it |_| to \_/ if you can picture that. Look at your dove tail on that drawer, same shape!

Sarcasm is good.

I've seen a bunch of the later bodies hacked, using any arraingment of sheetmetal attaching methods.

I would be tempted to cut the bed tapered, then pull the 2 sides of the fenders in to match. But I am known for cutting stuff up...

Yes, other than a welds on the inside of the rear panel support.

A bed would be as simple as you make it sound, the front might be a different deal.

Why are you considering this anyway?

still don't have the front figured out, that's going to be a major pita, while keeping the cowl. I'm gonna hit my project hard this weekend. hopefully we can start on my 'cage in the next week or so. but the rear fenders were chopped, had the inner fenders removed, and moved in as far as possible. then i'm going to attach them to the 'cage with some cotter pins or some of those cool tabs like the comp guys are running. also I'm going to put some frenched taillights on the rear part of the Blazer, below the tailgate, so the fenders can be removeable without having to worry about disconnecting the wiring.

Thanks for the replys. The sarcasm is fine with me too. Yes, I would like to do this for wheeling purposes. So far I have only wheeled at Hollister Hills since it is only about 20 miles from me. I plan on going up to the Rubicon soon and wanted to narrow the bed a bit before so I am not dragging it on all kinds of rocks. Plus I like the way it looks. For now just do the rear, wheel it, then the front will be a whole new monster for later.
