edelbrock 1406 dies on hills
I just put a new edelbrock 1406 on my 85 chevy k20. I went out wheeling tried to climb some steep hills. The truck would die and was very hard to start. I've heard you have to modify these carbs for offroad use. What do I have to do to make it work?

<font color="blue">I did the needle kit and it still stalled on hills. You probably dont want to hear this, but the best thing I did with that carb was take it off and go EFI.

Re: edelbrock 1406 dies on hills
Either that or try and go back to Q-Jet, they are much better for off road, I know I have been through this, and all the magazines did the tests and they say, not the best power but the best off camber...

Hey if you want to get rid of the Edelbrock cheap I will take it! I need a new base for mine. LOL
I love mine... of course I dont have many really off camber stuff here so it works fine for me. Mike |

Re: edelbrock 1406 dies on hills
Yeah edelbrocks are fine in flat lands, mud, snow...
They produce more power than the Q-Jet. Another new kid on the block is the Holley Truck avenger, it's engineered for off camber situations and has been tested professionnally and was said to be everything the manufacturer claims and more, and for under $400 it's a bargain. Not as much as a JY carb but to EFI... IceMan |

Check this site...I recently did these mods but haven't had a chance to test them out on the trails yet.

Re: edelbrock 1406 dies on hills
Thanks for the link to the site. There was lots of good info there. I guess I'm going to buy the spring loaded needle and seat kit and try that. Thanks for the help guys. I'll order one today and as soon as I get it installed I'll post back the results.

Re: edelbrock 1406 dies on hills
I've got a 1400 series carb with the dyno matched 3701 intake(egr) and it stumbles when I drive it. Even on the freeway it will do it. Is this an adjusment issue. When I bought the carb and bolted it on it ran like a champ and the secondaries would kick in and I would feel it. I had it tuned by a smog guy and it has ran poorly ever since. Any suggestions? I hate to post this in another persons thread but I figured as long as we're on the same topic it shouldnt be too bad.
