What is the difference between the 168 and 194 instrument bulb?

I know they are different numbers, but is one brighter/bigger/etc. than the other?

I don't kow what the difference is but when I used to work at a parts house we used to interchange them all the time (if we were out of one or the other). I never had anybody complain about any differences in brightness, etc.

Re: What is the difference between the 168 and 194 instrument bulb?

I knew I had this somewhere:

"The illumination bulbs are the brighter at 3 watts and are #168; the #194s are
generally used for signal or indicators and are rated at 2 watts. In an
unmolested dash, the #168s will be found in blue sockets while the #194s are in
light gray sockets. A single #161, 1-watt bulb may be used as the GEN light and
is in the black socket. "

Thats for car applications, however, the light wattages will be the same.
