just found a 1980 big 10 scottsdale pickup with the big square headlights

and i took the SPID label home with me, firstpart of VIN code is CCG14AS
the truck is in a salvage yard and is complete still, i was always under the impression that silverado was the only way to get the square headlight fron in 1980, but its RPO code V22 Deluxe front appearance that got you the square lights on the 80 pickups that were not silverado
some other options in the same square front 80 truck i found, of some interest maybe :

BC3 deluxe instrument panel(silverado style)
G50 heavy duty rear springs
ZY3 special two tone paint
Z62 scottsdale equipment
95L burnt orange 60 S
A01 tinted glass- all wdw
62W camel custom vinyl
so anyone here who owns an 80 square lights truck well yours is one more rarer

also they have a 68 chevy C20 custom camper and its very fixable shape(well for around here), the oddity of the truck was that even though the tailgate exactly matches the rest of the truck in color and condition, it has the 1971 disc brake sticker on it up in the left hand corner, hmmmm.....
i checked the front brakes and htey are normal 8lug 70-older drums, so..
everyone knows disc brakes was not until 71 on GM trucks

i know this sticker existed, but not for 68 of course, and this is the first sticker ive sene in person, only ever seen online pics of them

i suppose that its not impossible that someone in the early 70s managed to have to replace the tailgate and just happened to replace with one exact same colro but from a 71. its not like it was rare to find a 71 light blue truck to get tailgate from, and being that its a custom camper it might not have evne had a tailgate from factory since it most likely wore a camper at one time

68 chevy trucks 10-60 series are my absolute favorite trucks int he world bar none and im pissed that it is in the yard only to be demolished and shredded in which its fate is to be soon, id love to find a complete 68 gm truck again of any kind but havent been able to and meanwhile ppl just hand them over to scrappers.

bastards.,

I think every 1980 Chevy came with square headlights.

I have seen several Custom Deluxes w/round headlights. I always thought that it was only available on the upper level options.

I don't know that it was EVERY one, but it was many. My friends '80 Sub has them with the old bodystyle fenders.

AFAIK, every 80 came with the square headlights except the custom deluxe models, and most or all had the white trim and bumpers.

My '80 has the large squares, but it's a GMC. I thought all the 1980 models had the squares, in fact that is what I use as an identifier when looking for 27 spline NP205s. I guess its back to looking under the truck

Re: just found a 1980 big 10 scottsdale pickup with the big square headlights

well they came with either one, but supposed to be upper level only, or V22 apparently, im gonna have to get a 1980 chevy date book sheets copy from gm to know how this was done for sure. im a freak when it coems to gm truck options and codes and such, ive got 67--72 down to a fine art and am working on 73-80 now and then will move on to 81-87 after that. every era got more and more complicated, some options renamed with old RPO codes, new oens made, some dropped, some combined, etc,. evne Z61 and Z62 were combined into Z62 in 68 and Z61 dropped. z61 was custom comfort and z62 was custom apperance in 67, then in 68 it went to z62 custom comfort and appearance, bades on these trucks just say CUSTOM, Z84 was CST and later on changed to cheyenne and hten cheyenne super was started with a new RPO code

Re: just found a 1980 big 10 scottsdale pickup with the big square headlights

My 80 custom deluxe has the round headlights with the full chrome trim surrounding the front parking light (that started in 79). I believe the custom deluxe's had the round headlights, and the other trim models had the "upgraded" square headlights (a preview to the 81+ style), and you could special order custom deluxes with the square headlight from the factory.

One question I have always had, was: Is the core support for the round headlights different than the square headlights? I would assume it would have to be to accomidate the different headlight buckets and adjuster screws, but.......
